MMS adds Linda Strand to promote the expansion of medication management

Dr. Strand expands the scope of MMS to include Canada, Britain and Australia

MINNEAPOLIS (July 29, 2009)—Medication Management Systems, Inc. (MMS), one of the nation’s leaders in medication therapy management technology and services, announces the addition of Linda Strand, Pharm.D., Ph.D., D.Sc.(Hon) to its executive team.

As executive vice president of professional services, Dr. Strand will continue her international work to expand MMS’ business reach. Dr. Strand will also direct the development of new training and clinical applications for MMS to support patients and their care providers.

Dr. Strand helped found MMS and is an internationally recognized authority on pharmaceutical care and medication therapy management. She is currently working to expand the availability of medication management services in the Medical Home. Dr. Strand is a member of the Advisory Board for The Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC) — a coalition of major employers, consumer groups, patient quality organizations, health plans, labor unions, hospitals, physicians and many others who have joined together to develop and advance the patient centered medical home. She will continue to play a vital role in shaping the changing practice of pharmacy. 

Dr. Strand is a licensed pharmacist, having practiced in community, hospital, and clinical pharmacy settings. She held faculty positions at the University of Utah and the University of Florida. Dr. Strand most recently served as a Distinguished Professor at the University of Minnesota, College of Pharmacy. She also helped to establish and build the Peters Institute of Pharmaceutical Care at the same institution.

In 1990 her work on the practice of pharmaceutical care (now called MTM) was integrated with the work of Dr. Charles D. Hepler in the landmark paper entitled “Opportunities and Responsibilities in Pharmaceutical Care.” Dr. Strand received the Remington Medal in 1997 from the American Pharmacists Association — the highest recognition for an individual working in pharmacy. Dr. Strand’s work is internationally recognized. She has lectured throughout the world and conducted pharmaceutical care training programs for practitioners in over 12 nations.
