North Dakota Pharmacists and Medication Management Systems Partner to Deliver Quality MTM Services to Patients with Diabetes Minneapolis, MN (August 20, 2008)—Medication Management Systems (MMS) today announced a new partnership with the North Dakota Pharmacy Service Corporation—the result of a legislative initiative that established a medication therapy management (MTM) health benefit for North Dakota state employees and other beneficiaries who have diabetes. The MMS Assurance Pharmaceutical Care System™ will provide North Dakota pharmacists with pharmaceutical care training and technology to guide and document the delivery of quality MTM services, focusing on improving medication efficacy, safety, and adherence for patients with diabetes and other associated medical conditions. “MMS is proud to assist North Dakota pharmacists in delivering a quality MTM program which will be especially meaningful to patients with diabetes.” noted Nathan Schultz, Pharm.D., MMS President. “Our Assurance System™ offers the tools pharmacists need to assess and resolve drug therapy problems and coordinate efforts across the entire healthcare team to deliver the highest quality pharmaceutical care to patients.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, diabetes affects nearly 23.6 million people (eight percent of the population). Based on MMS aggregated experiential data, patients with diabetes have an average of eight medical conditions treated or prevented with an average of 13 different medications. And three-quarters of these patients experience at least one drug therapy problem, with almost 40 percent experiencing three or more. “The Assurance System™, an innovative and collaborative patient care program based on best practices, definitely delivers value,” Michael Schwab, Executive Vice-President of the North Dakota Pharmacists Association said. “Its technology standardizes the process of tracking and measuring human, economic, and clinical outcomes. And working with MMS, we are able to offer patients greater access and choice of pharmacy services through a statewide network of providers.” About Medication Management Systems Medication Management Systems (MMS) is a leader in designing, delivering and implementing successful, standards-driven medication therapy management (MTM) programs.
